My silly boys.

I stopped on the side of a country road with “just one nice photo” of the boys in mind. But apparently what Jack & Felix had in mind was to make every silly face that they know how to make:) As I was shooting these photos I was half frustrated and half crying/laughing because these things just never work out the way that I had envisioned.

But as I look at these photos almost 3 months after the fact – I love them. These are my 2 and a half year old boys just being 2 and a half year old boys. And I’m learning to embrace the chaos.

Most of the time;)

Absolutely love this roadside capture! Just one nice picture?? Not a chance. Gotta have at LEAST two. Delightful.ReplyCancel

I like to think of myself as somewhat of a country girl. Even though I’ve lived most of my life in a large city, there’s something about the open air and getting my hands dirty that is so refreshing. As a child I would visit my grandparents on their farm and would collect the eggs from the chicken coop, help my grandpa milk the cows, and pick apples from the tree to make fresh apple pie with my grandma.

After our previous little photo shoot, we put away the toys and just let the boys have fun tackling each other to the ground and making some country memories of their own.

Once in a while I get an idea in my head that I can’t let go of. I had visions of a little red radio flyer tricycle for months. I scoured every online source hoping for a chance at finding one second hand, with no luck. Then one day I went to check out Reclaimed Canada, a salvage studio here in Calgary. Now, if you haven’t been here yet, go! – seriously – your eyes won’t know where to look first. The store is filled, floor to ceiling, with items that have been salvaged from old barns, and they can even design custom furniture with the old pieces of barn wood.

But anyways – back to my point. I was walking around the store and something caught my eye. High up on a shelf was this vintage trike, complete with a broken wheel, a bell, tassels on the handlebars, chipped paint, and dents all over the seat.

It was perfect.

I snatched that baby up and waited for a golden sunset in September to go out and take some photos of my boys:) Not only do they look devastatingly handsome in their suspenders, but this was probably my most successful photo shoot with them because they got to play on the bike and little fire engine, and they almost forgot that I was there taking pictures.

Fun, fun, fun! How DO you manage to play on the road with no traffic? You must have accomplices! I LOVE your photos, Carlin, and you have adorable subjects with which to work. Keep on shooting.ReplyCancel

I’m convinced that the only thing a little boy needs to be entertained is a stick.

Felix and I explored an Apple Orchard in Summerland, and all he wanted to do was run back and forth with his sticks.
